Guidelines and recommendations for regulation and policy instruments (D5.6)

Within the scope of WP5 – Society, governance, policy, this deliverable D5.6 aims to provide guidelines and recommendations for future policy and regulation instruments, according to the reality of each of the six Living Labs of B-WaterSmart: Alicante (Spain), Bodø (Norway), East Frisia (Germany), Flanders (Belgium), Lisbon (Portugal) and Venice (Italy). This document describes (i) the role of the policy and regulation instruments to accelerate transition to a water-smarter society, (ii) the scope of the recommendations, topics grounded on the resources addressed by the project Living Labs, (iii) the approach followed to produce the recommendations, including contributions from other project activities (within WP1, WP2, WP4, WP5, WP6), and two dedicated sessions on policy and regulation, (iv) the policy and regulation instruments, addressing water-related circularity at European, national, and LL levels, (v) analysis of the major issues, and (vi) the recommendations for policy and regulation for water-smart systems, related to the topics addressed, namely – Digitalisation & IoT, Drinking water, Energy, Nutrients, biosolids and others, Reclaimed water, and Stormwater. The recommendations are expected to be applicable to other EU State-Members and to support the production of a set of four policy briefs, targeted for improved policy frameworks at local, national and EU levels.
